A5: Peace & Butterflies

Image
For my Xerox art, I decided to focus on the Pop Art movement because Peter Max is by far my favorite artist.  I was inspired to create a peace sign because most of his work revolves around peace, seeing the Pop Art movement was going on in the hippy generation. I thought it was best to use my hands to create the circle, showing unity among multiple hands.  I did not want to just incorporate my hands, so I used my feet to create the inner part of the peace sign.  To me, the feet symbolize steps forward to a peaceful world.  I also used to hands to create butterflies, which were inspired by the doves that Peter Max uses in a lot of his artwork.  Overall, this was a fun project to do.  I had a picture taken of me next to my artwork to show how big the piece actually is!

A4 Grid Art: Flower

Image
For my 30x30 grid art project I chose to do a purple flower. When I was trying to come up with ideas of what I could make, I was sitting in front of my fake purple flower that I have on my dining room table in my apartment.  I decided that it went along with my "Flower in Reverse" flip book, so why not?! Although I enjoyed creating this art piece, it took a lot of time and many attempts to not burn myself with the hot glue gun (which I obviously did multiple times...). At first, I planned to do a purple flower with a green stem as seen in my other pixelated inspiration above.  However, I realized that I did not have enough green gems and most of the green gems were two big and did not fit with the flower.  However, I am pleased with the way it turned out seeing I worked very hard on it!

A3: 21st Century Technology

21 st Century Technology (A3) Although there are many technologies that have been created within the 21 st century, a very commonly used app around the world that was thought up in 2008 and was created in 2009 has been extremely popular lately, especially for college students.   This app is called Uber and with just a click of a button a driver is at your door in just a few short minutes to bring you to your destination. The previous technologies that could have influenced creation of Uber are taxis, GPS systems, and smartphones. Taxis were created in the late 1800’s to provide transportation for citizens in large cities.   The passenger waits on the side of the road and waves down a taxi driver to come pick them up.   After getting into the taxi, the passenger provides the driver with a destination and by the end of the trip the taxi driver has a total amount of how much the taxi ride costs. An Uber ride is very similar to a taxi ride, seeing it is the ...

Flip Book: Flower in Reverse

Image
This is my first time ever making a flip book.  It is safe to say that drawing 200 drawings over and over again with only a little bit of change to each page was very difficult. I chose to do the life cycle of a flower in reverse along with the title being written in reverse order as well as the letters being written in reverse as well. This project was fun but very time consuming.  Now that I look at other classmate's flip books, I wish I had just taken 200 pictures and made them into a video, seeing that actually flipping each page was a difficult task without skipping pages.

Stage Door

Although I have not been to many Broadway shows, my grandparents were actors and I have always had some type of appreciation for Broadway and acting. After watching the Broadway videos on the Angel Stage Door blog, I appreciate Broadway even more now then I have before.   The voices of every singer were so beautiful and graceful, which made them very easy to listen to. I’ve realized they do not need to have much going on in the background to put on a good show if they have a good voice. Even though they put on a good show, I found that the ones with people just singing with nothing else going on in the background was very boring to me. For example, “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” videos were boring to me because the videos were just someone on stage singing with nothing else happening. However, the videos that had lots of dancing and fun things going on were more entertaining to me and kept me watching (Meet Me in St. Louis). I also liked the MAME co...

Carmen Opera

The opera Carmen, composed by Georges Bizet, took place in Seville, Spain around the 1820’s.   Carmen is a story of a young woman who seduces a solider, Don Jose, who was not interested in her the way other men usually are. Carmen is arrested after her and her ladies cause a fight in the square.   However, Don Jose sets Carmen free and is soon arrested for doing so. After being released from jail, Don Jose realizes he is in love with Carmen and goes to her only to find that she has fallen in love with a bullfighter, Escamillo. After Carmen tells Don Jose that she does not want to go with him, he feels so betrayed that he stabs Carmen and regrets it right after he kills her.             The opera show Carmen has been critical to the chronology of opera. The opera was considered to be a “realism opera” using realism methods, unlike most o...
