Performance Art: The Balloon Walk

For my performance art Eric, Kamryn and I walked around campus handing out balloons to people we did not know.  Most people seemed confused as to why we were handing them a balloon but seemed pleased after accepting it.  It seemed to have brighten each person's day and to those we didn't give balloons to, they looked at us very confused as well especially when the balloons were hitting me in the face because of the wind. I really enjoyed this project it was a lot of fun!

Three favorite performance artists:

Adrian Piper
Joan Jonas
Martha Wilson

What do they have in common?

Each of these female performance artists shared their views, ideas, and art through the way they dressed or portrayed their body parts.  I find this interesting that they can use only costumes, body movements, and even mirrors reflecting parts of their body to perform their views and it be understood.

Is technology an essential component in their work?

Adrian Piper used technology through videography and photography to capture the moments of her during her performance art so it could be seen by those who were not there at the time of the performance. Joan Jonas used technology through many things such as videography and photography, drawing, sculpting, and the internet to create a unique language for her viewers. Martha Wilson used technology through transforming herself into a drag queen in regards to gender identity problems around the world.  She also used videography and photography to share her performance art with everyone.
