ART 211

My name is Steph Schaffer and I am currently in my third year at the University of Tampa.  I was born and raised in Livingston, New Jersey and recently moved to Tampa, Florida. I am a Graphic Design major and I have a strong passion for Interior Design, as well as design as a whole. I have always had a creative side to me and I believe that my creativity can be blossom within my Graphic Design major and in all of the classes I will be required to take.

I am honestly very thrilled to be taking Art and Technology.  I feel that the atmosphere of the classroom seems to be relaxed.  Everyone in the class seems willing to be open-minded towards many different perspectives.  Before I got to the classroom I was very excited to hear what the class was about.  Once attending the first class I have become even more thrilled to take this course.


My goal in the Art and Technology course is to have a greater understanding of how technology relates to art and how they impact each other.  I expect that I will be able to use my creative skills to their full potential in this course, as there are many different projects to be completed by the end of the course. After taking this course, I also expect to gain and understand a variety of difference perspectives that I will be able to incorporate into my future.

X2: ASCII Art

ASCII art consists of a table of numbers and corresponding symbols.   However, ASCII uses letters, numbers, and control codes as well, but there are no graphics whatsoever used within ASCII artworks.   I find this to be very interesting seeing now you can do just about anything with graphic art on a computer.          I observed an ASCII work of art that was in the shape of a dog’s head, showing only ¾ of the dogs face with the tongue out.   It is interesting to me that just using letters and symbols on a keyboard can create such a lovely form of art.   However, I realized when you really take a look at the artwork, you do not see the details, but when you take a step back and don’t focus too much on one part of the dog head, you can see the eyes and the whites of the eyes as well as the glistening of the tongue and all.           I personally find ASCII art to be beautifully complex, yet so simple.  How just a couple of mixtures of letters and symbols can create such

Dubstep : Excision I chose this artist because I do listen to him quite frequently and I believe that he uses a large amount of base and high amounts of technology to create his music using electronics. He uses a lot of technology and electronics through the use of this DJ board. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbNIKR2pctU Girl Power : Beyoncé I chose this artist because I also listen to her very often seeing she is a very empowering woman, which makes me feel proud to be a woman. A3: 21st Century Technology

21 st Century Technology (A3) Although there are many technologies that have been created within the 21 st century, a very commonly used app around the world that was thought up in 2008 and was created in 2009 has been extremely popular lately, especially for college students.   This app is called Uber and with just a click of a button a driver is at your door in just a few short minutes to bring you to your destination. The previous technologies that could have influenced creation of Uber are taxis, GPS systems, and smartphones. Taxis were created in the late 1800’s to provide transportation for citizens in large cities.   The passenger waits on the side of the road and waves down a taxi driver to come pick them up.   After getting into the taxi, the passenger provides the driver with a destination and by the end of the trip the taxi driver has a total amount of how much the taxi ride costs. An Uber ride is very similar to a taxi ride, seeing it is the same concept.
